About Coach Mac

Coach Brad McCorkle, known as “Coach Mac,” has devoted much of his life to basketball, gaining experience in nearly every facet of the game. As a collegiate player with international experience after college, head coach of boys’ and girls’ teams at the middle school, JV, and varsity levels, skills trainer, mental performance coach, and father of a Division I player in the ACC, Coach Mac brings the expertise and perspective needed to help young players realize their full potential.

Playing Days

Coach McCorkle played at Fort Mill High School in Fort Mill, SC, before competing for four years at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Though a small school, Guilford boasts a storied basketball program that produced NBA standouts M.L. Carr of the Boston Celtics and NBA All-Star World B. Free (originally Lloyd Free). Coach Mac was a standout player at Guilford, serving as team captain and leading scorer during both his junior and senior seasons. After college, Coach McCorkle played in France and Belgium.

Coaching

Coach McCorkle began his coaching career working youth basketball camps during his college summers at Davidson College, Wake Forest University, and Clemson University.

He later coached both girls’ and boys’ teams with considerable success at the middle school, JV, and varsity levels. During his six seasons at 4A Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC, his teams achieved a 75% win rate. In 2014, Brad was named CAP-8 Conference and District Coach of the Year. He also coached at St. David’s School in Raleigh, NC, and Greensboro Day School in Greensboro, NC.

For more than 20 years, Coach McCorkle has provided individual skills training, helping players develop exceptional technique and mental toughness. Coach Mac is currently pursuing his Master’s in Coaching Education with a concentration in Mental Performance Coaching at the University of South Carolina.

For parents

Coach McCorkle understands the challenges of parenting young athletes firsthand. The proud father of two, Coach Mac raised a daughter, Sara Bradley, who excelled in swimming, soccer, and tennis at Greensboro Day School. Sara B is now a student at Wofford College.

His son, Carson, participated in swimming, basketball, football, and soccer growing up, with a particular passion for basketball. Carson earned a full scholarship to play Division I basketball in the ACC under renowned coach Tony Bennett at the University of Virginia. He was also selected to represent Team USA in 3x3 basketball at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

“Coach Mac did a great job enhancing our son’s shooting form and desire to attack the basket, but most importantly, worked on his mental game in ways that increased his on-court confidence.”
